Day Nine: Writing and Not Writing

When I’m not writing:

When I’m not writing, I’m working as a Customer Assistant at my local Supermarket.

When I’m not writing, I’m reading and enjoying books and looking for material to review.

When I’m not writing, I’m watching book-tuber videos on YouTube or researching additional material on fandoms which I am apart of.

When I’m not writing, I’m listening to music and enjoying time with my family.

When I’m not writing, I’m thinking of what to write next and creating my monthly blog plans.

Question Time, The Nerd Daily

Question Time With Literature_Ever_After

literatureeverafter qt banner

Below are a list of questions that I decided to ask fellow book lover, Jess, about the types of books she likes, her television interests and favourite movie moments and dreams.

***

Which genre of book are you most likely to be seen reading?
Definitely YA fantasy! I absolutely love losing myself in a mythical world. I especially love if there’s a certain government or culture to learn about the world I’m reading about. It makes me feel more involved!

Have you ever watched a movie adaptation of a book that was better than the book itself?
I would definitely have to say the maze runner. I was reluctant to see the films since I didn’t like the books, but the movie changed my mind about the franchise.

Name a TV show that is no longer on air, but you still love?
Tough one… there’s so many I love, but I think I’m going to have to go with the Vicar Of Dibley. A true British classic!

Name your favourite book, TV show & Movie. Now, if you could be your own character in one of those, which would one would you choose?
My favourite book is probably A Court of Mist and Fury, my favourite movie is either breakfast at Tiffany’s or Disney’s Atlantis and my favourite TV show has got to be Brooklyn nine nine! Out of all of them, I would want to be in Disney’s Atlantis! I would be on the team searching with Milo for the lost city.

What is your preferred reading style: books, e-books, audio books etc?
I will always pick books! But at work, I do listen to audio books since I usually sit at my desk doing work.

What are three fandoms which you are a part of?
I never get into fandoms! I don’t know why but I’ve never felt a pull to any set groups. I love so many books it’s hard to pour my heart into one fandom!

If you could direct your own movie, what would it be about?
Definitely a fantasy about a bad ass woman looking to save her people.

How do you get yourself out of reading slumps?
I actually wrote a whole article about this on TheNerdDaily.com! But my favourite way is to watch booktube! Their perkiness just makes me want to pick up all the books!!!!

Which TV shows would you recommend to others?
Hmmm… probably absolutely fabulous! It’s so funny and is still hilarious today!

Where is your favourite place to read?
A sofa. If I read in my bed I tend to fall asleep quickly! I’m always tired.

And that is the end of another Question Time! Thank you once again to Jess for her participation. If you are interested in reading any of her published work for The Nerd Daily then feel free to click on the link below to be directed to her profile:

Day Six: The Space to Write

  • What are your writing habits?
I have a tendency to always be writing, or at least thinking about writing during the times when I can’t write. This has always been a habit of mine and that habit has only increased in frequency with this blog in production!
  • What equipment or supplies do you use to write?
A notepad, or at least a LOT of paper, some pens and whatever else I need, this normally includes a book that I am reviewing. I also type up final drafts on my laptop or phone before posting.
  • What do you need and want in a physical space?
I like a lot of space to write but somewhere I can be left in peace. As long as I have enough room to have all my notes and essentials sitting in front of me then I’m alright!

Additional Question: What would you, as the readers of my blog, like to see posted? Let me know in the comments below!

The Darker Side to Always Being Nice

thedarkersidetoalwaysbeingnice

Faith Marie – “Little Girl” Song [CLICK HERE]

be nice

If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all.” Now, let’s be honest, we have all heard that saying at least once in our lives. Most likely you were given that piece of advice by your parents who in turn were told the exact same thing by their own parents when they were young as well. It’s nice to be nice! WELL, that’s very true but even being nice has it’s limits.

May I just state now that I’m in no way attempting to or looking to encourage or condone any harmful behaviour – this isn’t what this blog post is about. What this blog post IS about is how being nice to others often results in the individuals own unhappiness. It’s something which is often overlooked by the majority and whilst I, personally, would not consider myself to be an unhappy person overall, the scenario is something which I frequently find myself in: changing my own view or actions or basing a decision as to ensure that someone else is happy even if it means sacrificing my own, even if it is only for a brief moment.

too true coming last Unfortunately, this is something which I agree with. You may disagree and that’s fine but from my own personal experience this does seem to be the case with myself and many others who go out of their way daily to make others happy BEFORE themselves.

cant say no

I can’t speak on behalf of anyone else but for myself saying no is actually a lot harder to do, especially when the person or situation itself is intimidating… Or if I merely like them too much, saying no to someone I like or love fills me with a terrible sense of guilt that I can’t help but be annoyed with myself… and then the vicious circle occurs and I grow even more annoyed at myself for being so annoyed in the first place.

This may seem like a rant of sorts and I apologise for it seeming like so but I suppose it is just a way in which I can vent about something I normally wouldn’t discuss with anyone. Perhaps this is a way in which I can discover that I’m not the only one like this if I am not…

Personal: Facts About Me ETC

10 Bookish Related Facts About Me

  1. I don’t prefer movies to books but being able to see the worlds and characters which I love being brought to life no matter how terrible the movie adaptation is is my guilty pleasure.
  2. I have slowly begun to accept the existence of Kindle’s and understand how they are useful and do have advantages. HOWEVER, I will NEVER stop preferring books to an electronic device!
  3. I have an extremely bad and irritable habit of not finishing TV Shows… It’s not that I don’t want to finish them, just that I begin them and then start another and another and another until there’s so many I don’t know what which one to continue watching first.
  4. I used to want to be a writer and write books for children. Well, I say books, they were mostly short stories. One was a series of adventures following the unfortunately unlucky Dr. Rat and his fat white Cat… The other was a story I wrote in Primary Seven whilst on a school trip to Kilbowie Outdoor Centre (in Scotland where I live) in which killer sheep began to pick off unwary travelers. That story was then read out by me to my class afterwards. People seemed to like it, surprisingly, although I don’t think they knew some of them were the victims.
  5. I’m quite an obsessive person and often get too deeply involved in fandoms of things which I particularly enjoy, so much so that I may as well just exist within that fantastical world of which the fandom is focused on.
  6. In addition to being obsessive over things which I enjoy I also tend to go through ‘phases’ which shift extremely quickly. For example, within the space of an hour I could be researching everything to do with Bucky Barnes from the Marvel Universe and then suddenly be questioning why we never got to see Teddy in the end scene of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and if he is okay and happy and… Oh God, my heart!
  7. I actually am not a great fan of romance novels. Whilst I like the odd romance story or a book or movie which features a romance within in it (because let’s face it, most do) I don’t particularly like those which are strictly romantic and by that I mean your typical boy meets girl, they fall in love and live happily every after fairy tale type romance. It’s just too cliche in my opinion.
  8. I don’t own as many books as I would like. This really irritates me, especially because the book-tubers whom I watch on YouTube mostly come from America where the houses are much bigger than those in Britain or simply have bigger rooms and thus more space. I am very limited in the space which I am able to keep books and therefore can’t buy as many as I want to without having to sacrifice others to make room for the newbies.
  9. If I could have any job in the world, apart from my desire to enter the field of journalism, I would love to own my own bookstore. My ideal design for it would be based off the old fashioned bookstores that you often see now only in movies or read about in books. That little bookstore on the corner with its walls practically made of bookshelves and piled with books all the way to the ceiling… That would have been my dream job but sadly now-a-days, shops like that are not in fashion.
  10. I find it difficult to read in silence… This is a massive problem which I face and have done all throughout my life. Whether it be having to read aloud or having to audibly and visually react to what I am reading I am literally unable to sit down in a chair and read a book in absolute silence. Now it’s a bit obvious why, as much as I love them, I’m rarely seen in a library huh?

Well, that’s it for this post. You now know 10 Bookish facts about moi! Why don’t you share some of your habits and such concerning books and reading. Do you have anything you like or dislike about books? Are you a books/movies or both kind of person? Feel free to comment below!

AH Movie
(Characters L>R: Jennifer, Marco, Allie, Mr. Moore, Will, Lance, Miles)

Avalon High is a Disney Channel Original Movie which was released in 2010. Directed by Stuart Gillard, the movie has a run time of 1hr 30 mins and is the movie adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Meg Cabot. This fantasy drama movie suitable for the entire family stars Britt Robertson as Allie Pennington, Gregg Sulkin as Will Wagner, Joey Pollari as Miles and many more talented actors and actresses. Being an adaption of the book, there are a few noticeable differences within the movie. However, the basis of the story remains the same with young Allie Pennington transferring to Avalon High only to discover that the legends surrounding King Arthur and his Knights may not be as fictional as she once believed.

Day One: I Write Because…

Why do I write?

Why do write?

I don’t think I write for any reason different as to why others may write. I write because I love to, I write because I need to, I write because I want to.

Writing to me is as easy as breathing and in my own personal opinion – although perhaps this applies to some of you as well – writing is often easier than speaking. Whether it’s explaining something or merely wanting to let someone know of my opinion, writing it down or typing it up as I am doing now is often MUCH eaiser than having to explain it in words…

Writing comes from somewhere deep inside, a reason why I love both writing myself and reading what others have written. Words are magic and reading what others have written, for the most part, is like being allowed to see into their souls for just a brief moment because that is where writing comes from in my opinion. Writing comes from the head, heart and soul all at once and is something which I think is an act and gift that is more often than not overlooked…
