The Power of Words
“There exists, for everyone, a sentence – a series of words – that has the power to destroy you. Another sentence exists, another series of words, that could heal you. If you’re lucky you will get the second, but you can be certain of getting the first.”
– Philip K. Dick, VALIS.
Here is a quote which I know many need to read, if only just to educate them on the power which their words have upon others. Now, before you decide to stop reading, this isn’t going to be one of those depressing sort of posts or the type of posts that consists of an endless rant. Instead, I am merely sitting in my room in the early hours of the morning and musing over the power which words have over us all… I suppose this is something which is often overlooked by us all – yes, myself included – whether it be ignorantly overlooking how our words may affect people we know, or even people we don’t in cases of which words are send back and forth only appearing on a screen, or whether it be the words which we read in books… Words are a powerful tool which, as the quote about so cleverly states, can destroy and heal.
In quoting from one of the wisest characters whom I know…
And so, let this post serve as a reminder to you and to me that words should be chosen with care no matter who we are speaking to or of. Words hold a power over us all and have the abilities to control us whether by making us think or act differently according to what it is we hear or read.
Let this magic be used for good.
Today’s challenge: Compliment at least three people, whether it’s someone you know or even someone you don’t know. Say you’re grateful for having that person in your life or compliment how well they dress… Any kind of compliment could make someone’s day all the more brighter.
